I’m having trouble deciding on what to do for my drama warm up. I’m actually the last person to do my warm-up and it’s difficult to not do something someone else has already done or something we already did before in class. Here are some of my ideas so far:
1) Blindfold Race - It’s played in partners and one partner is blindfolded. We set up a path or maze and the blindfolded people have to start at the starting point. The ones who aren’t blindfolded will then have to guide the ones who are blindfolded by yelling out instructions.
2) Limbo - I think this is the easiest one, I can just get some music and get things going. I just have to think up of how to make it fair since there is some significant height differences in our class.
3) Thread the Needle - With a hula-hoop and circular pieces of ropes, everyone is joining hands together and we have to move the hula-hoop and the ropes around, sometimes in opposite direction.
4) Pictionary - I’d like to do this but I’m horrible and I can’t think up of a situation. If I can, I’d like to do a variation of this.
5) I don’t know the name of this game but does anyone know the game where “people are standing on an island and the space gets smaller and smaller and everyone must stay on the island and use teamwork like put one foot on the foot and hold each others’ hand to stay balanced and not fall”
6) Blob - A simple game where one person starts out as the “Blob” and he/she has to tag someone, when someone is tagged, the person joins the blob, this keeps on going until everyone is tagged.
7) Gossip - One person tells a long (a bit long) funny story which he reads from a sheet of paper then someone comes up and tries to retell story. We do this up til’ 5 times or for however long and eventually, the story gets so weird with some person having (accidentally, maybe) added some details as well as having forgotten some details. It starts to not make any sense.
I also wanted to do human knot because it was so much fun but we’ve pretty much already done it and I want to bring in a new game. Suggestions for my ideas or even suggestions for new games are welcome! To be honest though, I’ve already spent a good amount of time looking around at other questions here and around the internet and I have to say that we’ve done almost every warm-up mentioned. Also, my class isn’t the most enthusiastic class so if it’s something like a game where someone has to volunteer, it might not work out.
One of my favorite is Zip, Zap, Boing! People stand in a big circle, one person starts. They can use one of the 3 above. Zip is where you point to a person next to you on either side and say “Zip”. Then the next person can say one of the 3 choices. The point of the game is to go fast and get someone to screw up, then kick out the losers until someone wins.
Zip - Point to someone on ether side of you and say “Zip” at the same time.
Zap - Clap your hands directed to someone not next to you. Ex. other side of the circle.
Boing! - (counter)Flail your arms in the air and shake your body. if someone says zip or zap to you, you can use Boing and send it back to them, then they must sent something back to you or someone else. Boings can also go back and forth.
