How to Plan a Kids Party? – Important points to note

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

When you have decided to throw a party for your child on his birthday or any other occasion, the first question comes in the mind is â??how to plan a kids party?â?

The preparation and leading to its success, the kids party requires lots of planning and implementation. Here are some considerations on how to plan a kids party with maximum ease.

Start planning at least four to six weeks prior to the party so that you spend stress less time till the party is over and can do the related purchasing with a relaxed mind. Make out your budget. Make the list of guests and children you want to invite (with phone numbers that can be required at any time) so that you donâ??t forget any one and also get an idea of venue which also helps in deciding the place for party. Pick the party day and time that ensures maximum attendance and especially by the best friend of your child. Try to make it on the weekend. Choose the party theme that suits and is comfortable with kids and their parents such as the costume party which should not be difficult to find out. Plan out an agenda like plays and activities keeping in mind the party theme; area of party hall and the age of children, for example small kids love fun whereas pre-teenagers want some drama, games and music and dance. It is fine to set the length of the party for around two hours that allows time to greet the guests, play games and music, have refreshments and a magic show to name the few. Determine the venue, at home or outside and compare the pros and cons of both. If you go for a space other than your home then look for its location and size so as to accommodate all of your guests comfortably. Take extra precautions if there are stairs, swimming pool, glass windows and doors, busy streets, etc. A magical show can be arranged to entertain your guests and that is enjoyable for all ages of kids and grown ups. Prepare the invitations with a map on the back and send them in advance and request for RSVPs because some parents may have other commitments too. Decoration of the premises should be kids friendly and  a bunch of balloons can be tied on the entrance or mailbox so that guests can easily pinpoint the location. Plan for the food you are going to serve. Talk to the person who can assist you with the party. It can be your friend, relative or neighbor. Give her the responsibility to take care of gifts. Contact party suppliers for things like cake, napkins and plates, etc.

With eighteen years experience and commitment to entertaining kids and adults Mike has performed at hundreds of venues from Birthday Parties, Child Care Centers, Clubs, School fetes to Shopping Centers, corporate and private functions.

Mike is also a father which helps him relate to children on an even deeper level enabling Mike to understand the way children think and behave. Mikes philosophy during the show is to get down to the childrens level while at the same time raising their excitement level to achieve an exciting memorable experience.

There are many skills Mike achieves getting down and interacting at the childrens level; some of these skills are, expression: the way you say words, body language and choosing words that connect in a way that deliver an overwhelming reaction from the children.

A local survey was conducted with Directors of Child Care Centres on the Gold Coast and Brisbane to find which childrens show was most popular resulting in Magic Mikes Show being the most popular choice. For more details please visit How to Plan a Kids Party

Why Magic May not be the Best Entertainment for a Birthday Party for Kids Below 3 Years Old?

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Magicians, specifically those specializing in children audiences, are common choices as children birthday party entertainers as most often think all children love magic. However, a magician is not actually a good choice for children that are too young, specifically children aged 3 years and below. The reason is because children below the age of 3 have different perceptions of reality and their environment than older children. Reasons that support this fact include:

Very Young Children Have Difficulty Understanding Magic

Generally, children below the age of 3 do not understand magic because they do not understand the laws of physics and follow logical cause & effect sequences. Magic is an intellectual entertainment form and is all about defying the laws of physics and ‘bending’ logic. Very young children do not have the mental faculty or life experience to follow the concept of a magical effect. As such, magic they see appears to them as a matter-of-fact as opposed to an impossible occurrence.

Very Young Children Have Difficulty Following Elaborate Sequences

Children below the ages of 3 have difficulty following elaborate sequence of events or complicated actions that are supposed to mean something. This is simply because they have not developed the mental faculty needed to understand such activity.

As the nature of magic acts require the audience to follow what is going on in order to understand and appreciate the magic effect, very young children are naturally lost and will not be able to follow the magic.

Very Young Children Have Short Attention Spans

A magic show is typically about 30min – 45min long for a birthday party show. Very young children do not have the attention spans to sit through such a long show especially if they do not understand what is going on.

While reasons have been given against having a magician for a birthday party for very young children, there are, of course, exceptions. There are some very good professional birthday party magicians that can engage and captivate kids of this specified age. These magicians understand the behavior and they know what is wanted. They also have designed their shows to tackle all the points above so that the children’s attention will be captured throughout the show. They will often use colorful props, large movements, lots of action, pantomime and perform very direct and easy-to-understand magic effects.

Other magicians who are successful at entertaining children of such young ages are those who are multi dimensional and incorporate many other variety arts into their magic show. This can include featuring large and colourful puppets, balloons, music and/ or dance.

Very young children are engaged by visually stimulating and colourful performances. Bright colored puppets that can “talk” (via ventriloquism) really intrigue the young ones. Even though they are young, they do find it interesting that a “Creature” is making sounds and moves. They probably have a stuffed toy or teddy bear that they hug so seeing a “talking” stuffed toy talk surprises them.

Balloons and balloon animals can be good for very young children AS LONG AS they do not put un-inflated balloons or even parts of the balloon in their mouths. Take note that a bursting balloon may also scare children. However, because balloons are colourful and long balloons can be twisted into interesting shapes, young children are also intrigued by them.

So, the next time you are looking for a magician for a very young child, consider the points in this article and see if the magician you are considering can tailor his show suitably.

12 Power Camping Games to Play With Your Kids

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Do you like camping? Do you love your family? Why not combine your two loves into a family camping trip? Our hectic schedules are full of business meetings, junior league basketball games, and cleaning-spring or otherwise. A family camping trip can be the perfect getaway to help your family relax and bond. It can include traditional camping activities, such as hiking, bicycling, swimming, kayaking and fishing. But remember that your kids naturally have a “Are we there yet?” attention span, which has become shorter in today’s Information Age. Wherever you camp, including Berlin Ohio, you’ll want to keep your children engaged in activities that will make their camping a memorable experience.

You can center your camping trip around a place that becomes the main activity. This can include a national park, an amusement park, etc. When you return to your family camping tent at the campground, you can use other minor activities that will keep your little ones busy whenever they’re not sleeping.

Prevent boredom with board games

Board games never become outdated. Many of them are basically the same games that we played as children. Rolling dice, spending play money and sinking play warships can be just as fun for children in the wilderness, as at home.

Good games without boards

Many non-board games can be played with little or no equipment. Here are some suggestions:

? The Animal Game: This uses the reverse logic of the 20 questions game. In the Animal Game, one player continues to give clues about a particular animal. The player who guesses the animal first is the winner.

? Catch (i.e. baseball, football, etc.)

? Counting Games: During hiking trips with your camping backpacks, you can have kids count things such as birds, orange flowers, etc. At night, you can have your kids count the stars in the sky, and visually connect them to form pictures.

? Family tent games: Have kids use pantomime to act like someone the whole family knows, and then guess who they’re mimicking. In another activity, sing fun songs and use whacky actions along with the songs.

? Flag Football

? Duck Duck Goose

? Frisbee

? I Spy: One player begins describing something that they see in their immediate environment. The wilderness provides an excellent setting for this game, as the number of plants, birds, rocks, and things are almost unlimited.

? Save spot: Use a soft toy, such as a stuffed animal. One child is the “bad guy.” He or she runs away with a soft toy, called “Spot.” After the other players count to ten, they chase the bad guy. The first person to touch the bad guy, has saved Spot.

? Tag

? Treasure Hunt: Hide a wrapped prize within the campground area. Draw a basic map that includes major things in the area, such as rocks and trees; and footprints to get to the prize. Then give the map to your kids, and have them read it in order to find the prize. You can guide them, but let them do the exploring on their own!

? 20 Questions: One person, the “answerer,” thinks of a thing. The other player(s) can ask 20 questions to guess what the answerer is thinking about. This game is not only fun for kids in Berlin Ohio and other locations; it improves their creative and reasoning skills.

Whether you live in Berlin Ohio or Berlin, Germany, camping can be fun for your kids. Kids love games, so they’re a fantastic way to keep them busy during rainy days in the family camping tent, or while waiting for dinner to be prepared. Whether they’re played on a board or need no equipment at all, games can be a parent’s most important camping gear.
