Is drama teacher a fairly secure job?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

My dream is to be a teacher, but I’m not quite sure what subject I want to teach.

I love theatre and it would be so awesome to teach drama, but I’m not sure if it would be easy to find full time work.
Another thing I was thinking of was elementary teaching. I know that there will probably be more job opportunities for an elementary teacher, but is it so much more that I should just think on doing elementary instead of (jr high or high school) drama?

(I’m working on a pros and cons list and I’m wondering whether job security would go under both)

Thank you! :D

In drama my teacher told a story to relax us before a show, about turning into sand, anyone know it or like it

UK qualifide teacher with 3 years experience wanting advice on teaching abroad, preferably America ?

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

I’m a qualifide teacher in the UK just in my third year. I teach mainly Drama with some Citizenship/PSHE and one lesson of SEN English a week. My degree and PGCE were in English and Drama however only teaching one SEN English lesson a week has left me feeling a little out of the loop with this subject so I’m more confident with Drama. I’ve held the position of Teacher in Charge of Drama for two years now so i’m quite confident with middle management roles however would be happy as a classroom teacher. My partner works for a large multinational company which has its HQ in Silicone Valley, San Francisco. We would really like to move out there as this would open up lots of options for him, however we’re aware how difficult it could be for me to find work out there. Any advice on agencies who may be able to help me secure a teaching position in San Jose/ San Francisco? Or how to apply to Private/ International schools?
Sorry I also forgot to mention I’m a statmented Dyslexic; this is what firstly inspired me to teach and also to get involved in teaching SEN English. I strongly believe that learning disabilities are not an excuse to limit your potential and am living proof that is possible, with a lot of hard work, to obtain good qualifications and a career regardless! I generally have strategies to cope with my condition however as I didn’t use my own computer to post this I didn’t use my normal spell checking software. So Mr Jessup I suggest you actually use this site for the purpose it was intended to be used for, sharing knowledge, rather than trying to discriminate against people with learning disabilities and leaving ignorant posts which are irrelevant to the questions being asked! Unless of course you want your account stopped for not adhering to the site rules?
